Michael Schmidt Yachtbau opens new yard in Germany
Michael Schmidt Yachtbau (MSY) in Germany officially opened its new state-of-the-art construction facility on December 20. The yard in Greifswald has been custom-designed for fitting out carbon sailing yachts between 20 and 30 metres in length.
The new MSY facility makes for an impressive sight, offering more than 3000 square metres of floor space plus a further 500 square metres of offices. “This brand-new building reflects the strong ambitions which our yard has set out for the future,” says Johannes Malzahn, managing director of MSY. “It will eventually enable us to fit out between four and six yachts simultaneously and we have ensured that our highly experienced craftsmen have access to the very latest equipment “
The construction hall is high enough to allow boats of up to 30 metres in length to be handled inside with their keel already mounted. Next to the building is a fully equipped spray cabin that is also suitable for yachts of the same length. And because the facility is located directly on seven metres of deep water, the newly completed MSY yachts will be launched and ready for action at their place of birth.
The first hull had already entered the facility in early December – the Brenta 80 SRD designed by Lorenzo Argento. The second new build will follow in May 2017 as Michael Schmidt Yachtbau continues to creates fast sailing yachts that provide a superior blend of contemporary luxury and user-friendliness.
